Our 6 yr old refuses to take Quillivant XR some mornings. She says it causes her to lose self control, increase anxiety. Not in these exact words but similar. What do we do?

6 yr old refuses to take medication
Go back to the prescriber (if you are happy with them) and tell them it’s not working well and you’d like to explore other options. Adding guanfacine is one option. Checking into non stimulant options like Qelbree is another. Would also highly recommend adding in b-complex vitamins with methylfolate. Different doctors have different levels of experience with prescribing for specific pediatric populations. Make sure you feel confident in your doctor and if not look for a different one.
stimulant medications can raise anxiety. They definitely did for me. I realized that stratera, a non stimulant worked better for me. 2 of the possibilities can lower blood pressure and one can raise it (my stratera).
I chose stratera because I was on several medications that lower blood pressure (anxiety and depression meds usually are) and I already have low blood pressure. Now I’m at a normal blood pressure.
Hope this helps! Zen hugs 🫂
I would listen to her and go back to the doc and try a different medication.
