Hi! We are in the process of applying to middle schools in NYC for my child, who has ADHD. We're looking for public schools that are known for their supportive environments and effective programs for students with learning differences.
If anyone has had positive experiences or can recommend specific schools that have strong resources for children with ADHD, I would greatly appreciate your insights.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Since I live in California, I do not have specifics about the schools in your area, I do have a few things that might help in looking at schools:1. Make sure you child has a 504 plan or I.E.P. to support their learning in middle school.
So much changes between elementary and middle school, like having multiple teachers/classrooms that children rotate through.
2. See if their are neighborhood kids going to the middle school so you guys can get involved in activities with other families to build a support system. This will also most likely continue to high school.
3. See if the middle school has an elective class that acts as a study skills class so your child can get extra time to work on homework or work on areas they need extra help in.
4. Try to see if the school seperates kids by grades. So 6th grade in one hallway, 7th in another, this helps the younger kids not have to be mixed with the older kids. They often have 2 lunches for this reason also.
5. See about meeting some of the teachers to get a feel for how they interact with kids. If I had done that I would have never put our son in his middle school, I would have moved him to another school.
