I assume you feel he is so out of control he can't live at home anymore?

Boarding school is not the answer for an ADHD and ASD child. They need the love and security that is provided by their parents in their own home.

I agree 100%. They need love and patience, not a boarding school.

Just curious have you been able to give your child: medication, therapy and an educational tool? Also could you help them find a hobby that they love?

For our son it was Tae Kwan Do then sports.

Helping them with these then telling them I love you, but I do not like your behavior..

Something worked.

Hope you find what helps to make life better for everyone.

While people do not like to acknowledge it, sometimes kids need more than parents, even very good parents, can provide, and often times there are not good local schools to be able to teach kids with learning differences. High school boarding schools require parental involvement and there are lots of breaks....you will be involved and able to show your kid love, attention, and affection. And they will have a community of other kids and adults at school to love them and challenge them too. All kids deserve to be accepted at and comfortable in school, but for some kids, that is super hard to find.

Check out the excellent programs at The Leelanau School in MI, Besant Hill in CA, The Hyde School in ME, and Darrow in MA. These excellent schools change lives. There are others too. Don't let others shame you into not looking. And don't wait until your child drops out to wonder if you should investigate other options. Your kid can find success, and you both deserve the feeling that comes with a good school fit. Good luck !
