hello. I’ve been living with my 9 and 11 year old step sons for 6 months. I realized I need to learn more in order to do my best to help them. The younger one threw a tantrum at church tonight that I had to drag him home and his best friend is very scared of him now. The structure of the night changed unexpectedly, and his friend wanted to leave early. He didn’t like the music and he just wanted to play games. He finally just exploded. Admittedly I allowed him to have the pizza brownies and lemonade they had at dinner, which I think added to the emotional meltdown. Lord have mercy. I need some direction here… not sure what to ask. Maybe What’s your favorite resource or book? Where do I start ?

They are lucky to have a step mother wanting to learn! Whish you all the best!
I would start with Brain Body Oarenting and trying to understand that your child operates differently than a lot of other kids. If you're into podcasts , the neurodiversity podcast, beyond awareness disability awareness that matters, and ADHD Rewired are all really free resources.
Above all else, managing your expectations is the biggest part. I'm glad your son has you.
Highly recommend Adhd dude and grow now adhd on Instagram. They also have a new podcast out which is very helpful. Adhd dude has a parent training course. I went through it and it was incredibly helpful. I learned so much about adhd and how to parent kids with adhd!
