Finding Behavioral Analysis Service provider for my son with ADHD.

Good morning parents I'm so glad I found this support site! My son (4) was diagnozed with ADHD (compbined type) a few months a go. Since they we have been on the look for a Behavioral Analyst Service provider in South Florida that can assist us. Although I have trippled checked with my insurance to ensure they cover the services needed the providers that I have reched out have not taken our case claiming that the insurance will not cover it. When I call the insurance again they state that no claim has been submitted. I'm getting a bit frustrated!!! has anyone experience this?

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions

I'd ask your insurance company for a letter documenting in writing that ABA will be covered, listing your child's name, DOB, insurance ID or policy number, group number, diagnosis codes (ICD codes) and the procedure codes (CPT codes and any modifiers) for ABA. That way you can show a copy to the ABA companies. Most insurance companies will not pay for ABA for a diagnosis of ADHD alone, without a diagnosis of autism. That's probably why the ABA companies are not accepting him as a client, unfortunately. (I'm a pediatrician and have fought this battle for patients, even after a specialist recommended ABA for significant ADHD). It is very frustrating for families. Maybe something in writing will help. I hope you find someone!

Please reach out to your sons school district and ask about preschool services, they will most likely have an entire team of specialist that he can work with if he qualifies for. Request a letter from his doctor and provide it to the school. Once you know who the preschool team is give the a written statement requesting an assessment and make a statement about needing support from a behavior specialist.

Let us know how it goes. If he qualifies they should write up a plan, ask in the plan to include parent training.

Hope this helps. We are here for you and hope to support you on this journey.

I love that you put "ask in the plan to include parent training." What can you tell me about sources of training outside of school districts for those of us raising ADHD kids? Are school districts the best source, or what are our options for training?

There are many sources for parent education ( medical-parenting classes, on-line, in person, at school, etc)..There are a number of types or parent education: how to parent, how to discipline, how to parent multiple children, how to parent with a partner, goals to have for your child, how to deal with the public, how to help with school and homework, etc.

Not all of these can be dealt with in a class so maybe you could consider doing research and some learning on your own.

If possible, maybe ask your child's doctor about classes they offer. Then ask the school and compare.

Best of luck!

Thank you!

In my journey no ever suggested help for me. Even my pediatrician. Everything I know has come from my own research and learning. That's why I was surprised to hear that schools offer that training now. My youngest is 14 though so maybe that's why.
