Anyone tried Joon?

Have a 7 year old w combined type adhd, and need to focus on behavioral component and building self reliance skills. Has anyone tried the Joon app? It sounds promising, but my little guy gets so distracted that I’m afraid if I give him my phone to check off tasks in the morning, I won’t be able to get him out the door. Also would love something to help with medication compliance, as he can take his pills, but sometime refuses to. I want him to feel some ownership over his own health.

The reviews look really good - but I haven't tried.

Yes! I tried it with my 9 year old. I had similar concerns about him using it in the morning but it worked out fine. I’d let him check it 2-3 times a day based on self care, chores etc.

The app ideally motivates a child to build a habit and then the habit becomes more automatic. It worked for my son.

After 3 months he found it a little boring and repetitive so he wanted to take a break. Most of the habits stuck. It’s been 3 months since he stopped using it and I got an email that the developers added a few new features.

We’re going to start using the app again during the summer to strengthen his habits and encourage new ones.

It’s a little pricey for an app and I think only offers an annual subscription. If it’s cost prohibitive for anyone I know many friends who have had similar results using sticker reward charts and positive praise in a consistent and mindful way to build good habits.

I could not consistently keep up with a rewards chart for either of my kids (perhaps a result of my own ADHD) and needed the structure, built in reminders and prompts of the app. I’ve learned to accept support whenever I can in any way it’s accessible; even if it’s in the form of new technology.

I don't know much about the Joon app. We use just a good old fashioned checklist for mornings and afternoons. I put it in a plastic frame so my kids can check it off with a dry erase marker. My kids get so distracted with technology, so I worry about introducing it too early. But, I totally think you should use whatever works for your family!

Is it similar to Brili? We tried that when our son was really dawdling getting ready for school every morning. He loved it for 2-3 days, then spent all his time fiddling with my phone and the app instead of getting ready. Oh, ADHD….
