Vyvanse With Gabapentin? Prescribed both for different conditions, but do they counteract each other or benefit one another? Any Thoughts?

Dear Readers & Fellow Sufferers,

I am still pretty new here, and I recently switched from methylphenidate to Vyvanse to help my battle with ADHD. I have done some research to prepare myself for what I might expect with this new med (also in addition to other meds I currently take for other conditions.) Among several medications I have been prescribed, the one that gets mixed reviews for how it balances with Vyvanse is Gabapentin. I am on Day 4 of Vyvanse, and I have taken my Gabapentin differently each day, not sure what is good to do and what is a hinderance to the Vyvanse's potency. Does anyone know how Gabapentin and Vyvanse work together? Doing a basic internet search gives me mixed reviews... "It cuts its potency in half" "it extends the Vyvanse longer" "it makes you tired, so take it at the end of the day" "it's an acid trip" etc... I know everyone is different and when it comes down to it, I have to rely on my on body chemistry and how I know it processes medications, but I don't want to take one thing, then take something else that makes the first thing stop working and get no benefit from either one. (And I'm certainly not looking for an acid trip) I want my Vyvanse to be effective and work at peak performance, so if my Gabapentin (taken for hip & severe lower back pain) is getting in the way, I don't want to take it in conjunction with Vyvanse. I just want to know how best to take these meds and what the effects are when taken together.

If anyone has any thoughts or personal experience, I would love the advice and help! Still working out the Vyvanse kinks, lol!

Thanks so much for listening and any advice you may have!

~Magdalena

Drugs.com says there is no known interaction but says that does not mean there isn't one for certain people. If the Vyvanse is not working maybe it is not the right drug for you. Check with your doctor.

Your pharmacist would be a great start any drug interaction questions and then your doctor. Also talk to doctor about Vyvanse...you may need an adjustment. A lot of times doctors start at a lower dose of a transitional new drug before slowing increasing it. Good luck.
