Stomachache and meds

Hi my 10yo son is on sertraline and intuniv. He went from 1mg to 2mg a couple months ago and I've noticed an increase in his complaints about stomach aches and motion sickness. Has anyone else experienced this and do you have any advice to help alleviate the stomach ache? It could be caused by something else but the frequency has increased when we went from 1mg to 2mg.

I would like to keep him on these meds as it is helping and going through the trial and error of medication changes is so tough.

Thanks for the question.

Just curious...

Is he eating before he takes them? It makes a big difference for me personally.

Also many children with ADHD have certain foods they want or like have you seen if that makes a difference.

Like maybe he starts with a smootie then after having that he takes the medication. Then make sure there is milk or yogurt in it to coat the stomach?

I know when something is working it is hard to give it up. Do you think he know how much the medication helps?

Best of luck.

Thanks. He takes his meds at night, and complains of a stomachache after breakfast. I've stopped giving him milk in the morning and that seems to help for now. Sometimes it seems like it's reflux, and other times maybe he is just hungry. I don't think he's aware of how much the meds are helping. Not actually sure how to bring up that conversation but I should work on that. THanks for your input, I appreciate it.

I wonder if you gave him a "snack" before bed if that would help with the stomachace.

From my experince it takes a long time for them to really understand the hug help the medications help him.

Our son is 16 year and about 1 year ago he told me he could not "feel"the difference, but knew they helped becuase he was not getting into trouble when he took them.

Best of luck.
