Distracted while eating- no meds

My 11 yo daughter has never been good about focusing while eating. In fact it was one of her behaviors that led us to a neuropsych eval several years ago. It looks as if she is so distracted/inattentive that she simply can’t focus on her food or drink to continue picking up bites or taking sips at a regular pace. Anyway, it’s been a reason her ped has been hesitant about prescribing a drug for adhd (she’s always been around 10th percentile for weight and height). But I’m wondering if a drug might actually help her focus while eating and actually contribute to good weight gain and growth? She is doing fine in school but the standards are quite low (no homework for example) and she’s inattentive type so not a behavior problem for teachers. I’m just wondering if anyone else’s child has had weight gain as opposed to loss while on adhd meds? Thanks!

Hi. My daughter recently started medication for ADHD. She also is really tiny and in the low percentiles for height and weight so we were concerned about possible weight loss too. She has been on Focalin for about three weeks only. But so far, it has not hurt her appetite or caused any weight loss. Hope that helps!
