Thanks for the post.. Have you considered Tae Kwan Do. It was so helpful for our son most of his life growing up. He gained self confidence, the ability to persevere and self protection. To practice for a "belt" and test then pass was so wonderful. It also allows them to enjoy something outside of school.

I agree with Onthemove1971. Any martial art will build self-confidence (for me it was judo/kung fu - my self-confidence increased after only 4 months of classes in 7th grade).

Other options are:

- a paying job

- a volunteer job

This could be something simple like stuffing envelopes for a charity or shelving books at the school library. Sorting food at the food bank, etc.

Additionally, consider something like a sleepaway camp or a trip with Outward Bound or REI. Being a Counselor-In-Training for little kids is also great for building confidence. Sign your kid up for a first aid/CPR class with the Red Cross first - being in this class will also boost self-confidence.
