Hi- my 17yr old, with ADHD inattentive, started Jornay PM 20 mg 5 days ago. Any advice on questions to ask them to see if it’s slightly working?
They say they don’t feel different at all. I think they wake up a little earlier than they had been. I know there are still the focus struggles with schoolwork.
Any advice on questions to ask them to see if it’s slightly working? Would be greatly appreciated.

I know if you ask my son if he "feels any different" he will say no. We just can tell by his behavior and success in school. We have tried many many types and know that he needs 2 types of medications at a higher dose than many.
Go with your gut and keep asking/describing his behavior to the medical professionals.
I was told medication can stop 60% of behavior and the rest will be thearpy and modifications.
I don't know about Jornay, but when my son is on his stimulant meds I can tell with about 90% accuracy. If I interact with him for about 5-10 min, it is usually pretty clear. He will often say he can't tell the difference, but as he got older he began to notice some of the differences himself. I wouldn't expect that to come to someone who just started though.
Jornay has worked well for our 9 year old son but we did need to increase his dosage to get the benefits we were hoping for him. We get very little feedback from him on how his meds are working so we work closely with his teacher to get a sense of how his day at school is going socially and academically. We think meds make a big impact but agree that it doesn’t removed 100% of the issues. Good luck!
We just started Jornay with my 5 year old. So, it's not really comparable, but it has seemed to benefit him. Mornings are always a struggle, very wiggly and energetic, which is why we made the change in meds. We saw positive change immediately. He was able to get changed, eat and brush with very little prompting and did it in a timely fashion (20 minutes or so). Last night, I was sick and spaced on his med, and the difference was clear. It took a lot of effort to get changed today and it took 25+ minutes for him to eat breakfast (he was still at it when I left for work). It's probably a lot easier to see those things in a 5 year old than a 17 year old. Our biggest challenge is the remainder of the day. The first few days at school after the med change were rough and we weren't sure it was going to be the right option (easier for us in the morning, but harder for him to focus at school). Things have seemed to level out a bit but we have added a 5mg dose of Ritalin around lunch time and he seems to get through the day with little issue.
Woodworker87 , are you still using Jornay? If so, what dose do you give, and when does it seem to wear off? Have you tried other stimulants? How would they compare, in your experience?I am going to ask about it for my 6 year old, who currently takes Concerta, so looking for any feedback you may have.
Unfortunatly, nothing has worked for my child. We have tried stimulants that are extended release and short acting. They get maybe 30 minutes to an hour of "help" from them. The psychiatrist we are seeing is stumped for sure. I hope things work out better for you all. My child is a rare case from what I am learning. however, My brother, also ADHD, hasn't found anything to really work for him except for high amounts of caffiene.
