Big warm welcome... we are here to support you while on this journey..
Thank you for being open to trying medication. Hope your child find success. Many of us have been in your shoes. Trying medication takes patience and if it doesn't work there are others that should help. It should not change your child's personality, but help with the inattentiveness.
Take care!
thank you! her pediatrician started her on zoloft wanting to address the depression first. after meeting with a psychologist and going through testing, it sounds like the depression is a result of the inability to focus. HOPING the focalin will work because the zoloft has not been great. what a year this has been trying to find support and relief for my daughter. its exhausting and brutal to watch her suffer.
Hello! My daughter has been taking Focalin for about 6 months now. She has epilepsy and her pediatrician chose it because it is less likely to cause seizures. We started with 5mg and increased to 10mg. It does work while she is at school which is beneficial, but it has worn off by the time we have to do homework at night which is a problem. She also definitely has decreased appreite from it and has lost a lot of weight so we are having to monitor that.
We are also on Focalin, and my son has lost weight (which at 3 he's already skinny enough). His pediatrician prescribed him cyproheptadine (an antihistamine) that increases appetite. It does seem to help him eat during the day. At night it's still a struggle because the Focalin has worn off by dinner time.
