Any recommendations on books?

Any advice on best books to read ? I have a 15 y/o who was recently diagnosed w adhd inattentive - also depression / anxiety - and it's been a very long road with him. He is just now beginning to engage in some therapy which is a huge step, but he's been historically resistant to treatment/ talking about it/ acknowledging it. I feel like we as a family need to educate ourselves more and normalize the conversation in our house so that we all have more empathy about what is going on (rather than frustration) Ideally I'd like something that we all can read and digest - he is the youngest of 3 boys and this has been difficult and heartbreaking for the whole family.

I like these:

Smart but Scattered

The Explosive Child

Raising Boys with ADHD

The Gift of ADHD - This one was important to me to not only read, but for my son to see me reading. I try to encourage him and remind him that ADHD gives him strengths that other people don't have (lightning fast thinking and response rates, highly creative, think outside the box, etc.) so I try to make sure that he knows I'm reading "help your kid" books, AND "your kid is so cool" books, too.

I'm a big fan of fiction as well, reading for pleasure can be both fun and restful for the mind. There are fiction series out there where the main character has ADHD or another learning disability (either explicitly states, or heavily implied.) Notably, Percy Jackson and Sherlock Holmes. I feel like these are great because they can demonstrate how people with ADHD can be successful in the real world.

He has talks on YouTube as well. Some are 3 hours long, but there are posts where they're broken down into 30 minute sessions.

Hi there, I have inattentive ADHD and was not diagnosed until my mid 20s. I work with the ADHD community and have been researching ADHD for the past 6yrs. Once I started taking a low dose ADHD stimulant medication, along with supplements to help out the variety of ADHD symptoms, I was able to turn my life around for the better, and am now completing my university credentials to work as an ADHD centered therapist. Similar to your son, I had issues with anxiety, frustration, and also had lots of lethargy/apathy. I published a book on Inattentive ADHD (link in my profile bio) and have an ADHD youtube channel where I have videos that speak on helpful tactics/strategies to help people with Inattentive ADHD, and how parents, friends, and colleagues can be helpful and understanding to those of us with Inattentive ADHD, along with videos on Inattentive ADHD throughout the different life stages. Inattentive ADHD has similar characteristics to the other two subtypes (hyperactive and combined type), but is vastly different in a variety of ways. My ADHD youtube channel username is "wilhelm the esoteric" in case you're interested. Hope this helps.
