I’m guessing you have tried all non-stimulants?

Yes- at the end of our ropes here. He’s agitated w every single medication at the smallest possible doses available. Seeing a psychiatrist presently.

I am sorry that you are not having luck. While I do not have a child on this medication, I know that the school 504 plan and seeing a therapist have also been life changers for us. I am hoping you find something that helps. We are always here to help/support..

Just one piece of advice.. it will not always be this bad. Children do wonders with maturity. Even if you have to wait and try to survive with therapy as your main tool with help of the school plan.

Big hug for all of your frustration.

Take care

I know it is hard to imagine.. but try to "think forward" so that today is not so bad. There will be something that helps or he will gain maturity. One last thing, we can "hate" their behavior but.. behavior is communication and we really still need to love our child...

They do not have the skills and maturity to say why they are acting the way they are. You will either find something that helps ( lock up all the food, candy, snacks, trust me) or he is going to gain maturity. We have always done counseling together so we can say this is the issue, give us the tools to fix it.

Just want you to know you are not alone.

Some of us are just farther ahead in the path.

There are some behavioral strategies that you can try. It will take time for them to work. Consistency and getting through the days will slowly improve your life although it will be a rollercoaster not a straight line. See these strategies that have been proven to work with all kids, including ADHD and other classifications. There are many references of clinical trials to be found. These Pax tools are part of the Pax Good Behavior Game that has 30 years of documented research. GBG is a strategy that teachers use in elementary school that actually changes many negative behaviors years later. GBG changes the decision making prefrontal cortex by providing practice in controlling their emotions in a structured setting. With schools closed/virtual, Paxis Institute posted on You Tube these free Tools for parents to use. Here are some links:

I'm an adult with ADHD and suffered with it well into adulthood. I had tried many meds and other protocols until I got Desipramine and over night my life improved. There is more to the story, but if you want more just ask. Again, my experience with Desipramine was all as an adult, but still it may prove helpful to you.
