Dear EvaAndIsaac:

Thank you for reaching out to CHADD's National Resource Center on ADHD. It is great that you are willing to do all you can to help your son succeed in life!

If your son has been diagnosed with ADHD or you suspect he has ADHD, it is important to educate yourself on the condition. The ADHD toolkit is a good place to start. It contains a wealth of information about ADHD and includes quick facts, podcasts, and information from experts. You can access the toolkit here: chadd.org/nrc-toolkit/ .

Additionally, a university or hospital ADHD center would be a good resource for you to find a provider that specializes in working with children with ADHD. You can find an ADHD center near you by searching the directory at:

chadd.org/organization-dire... .

Not only is it important to support your son, but it is also important to find support for yourself as a parent of a child with ADHD. CHADD has local support groups across the country. You can see if there is a local support group near you at: chadd.org/affiliate-locator/ .

If you have other questions, please let us know!

Sincerely,

Jami

The resources here are fantastic so read through them all. And whether or not he is diagnosed with ADHD or not, there are parent tips called Pax Tools on You tube you can find. I will link 3 below.

You might also ask your school if they've ever heard of the Pax Good Behavior Game. Pax isn't just for ADHD kids, it's for everyone so there is no stigma or finger-pointing. PAX GBG is based on multiple “gold standard” studies of classrooms and teachers in the US, Canada, and Europe. PAX GBG may be the most effective strategy a teacher can currently use in his or her classroom to protect children from lifetime mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders while also increasing lifetime academic success.

Everything in PAX was invented by teachers at one time or another, and then tested by fire by some of the world’s best prevention or behavioral scientists in clinical studies. You will find references for replicated scientific studies—most of which can be found at pubmed.gov (the National Library of Medicine). Only one of the hundreds of studies related to the tools in PAX GBG is by the developers of PAX GBG. The science is truly worldwide, spanning the United States, Canada, several European Countries, Africa, and findings from First Nations or Tribes. There are more scientific studies about the components of PAX GBG than virtually any other universal prevention strategy for classrooms.

As PAX has evolved, an emphasis on parent/family support has emerged. PAX tools are now being developed that families need to reinforce the strategies children are learning through the Good Behavior Game.

Look on You Tube for the complete set.
