my daughter graduated college in 2015 with a degree in biology in hopes of being a marine biologist. She was coded gt/ld, has ADHD, depression and anxiety. Sees a psychiatrist and is on medication. Had no problems in college graduating with a 2.9 gpa. She volunteers at an aquarium and teaches swimming. After living in philly, getting fired from a museum job, she came home to take the gre's (yes) and apply for grad school (no). Since graduating, she has lost her self esteem, given up on grad school, is defiant, lies and takes on no responsibilities (has 5 animals she doesn't take care of). Many people have tried to help her with school, career etc, she starts, but never follows through. She has hit rock bottom now and I'm at a loss as to what to do. Does not help at home and doesn't listen. I thought a life coach may help her, but not sure. Any suggestions would be appreciated (this is is my 1st post here). Thank you.

26 year old daughter shutting down
Thanks for sharing your experience with your daughter. I am not sure how long she has been seeing a psychiatrist, but I would suggest she makes an appt. asap and discusses what is going on. They might need to change her medication.
Also, is she see a therapist ? This could help her a lot to have someone outside the family to help her deal with what is going on. It would also be great if she could be in contact with a Marine Biologist to discuss that career so she can really decide if that is what she wants to do. The carrot in front of her is that career she really wants and that. Should motivate her.
Best of luck, please continue to support and love her ( I am not saying you are not) life is not easy at time for our kids so many hurtles to jump over.
Take care,
You are dealing with an adult here so anything that you suggest is going to have to be OK with her. You don't think she's on drugs do you?
My daughter didn't really stabilize until her late 20's. But she got into drugs which really messed things up.
