Device for Treating ADHD Gets FDA Approval. Thoughts???? Will you try it?

I read this article today about a device that kids aged 7-12 can wear while they sleep. It sends electrical impulses to a part of the brain. Would you try it? Heard of it? It’s for non medicated kids so sounds like a good summer test...

Thanks for the article! I am surprised it was written by CNN.

Here are a few thoughts. These devices are also becoming popular for migraine use.

I am surpised that the trial was done on so few kids, only 63 that's a very small number of kids. I have not spent any time studying this issue. But if was some improvement that is always good. Their listed side effects are worrisome and the article didnt address them. Like the loss of appetite, is that becuase the kids were on medication and now they are not? Also I am not sure why a child would have to be off medication( is it becuase the could not tell if a better outcome was due to the device or medication.

Also the article did not address by 12 years old is the max age.

Just a few of my thoughts.. unfortunately we would not qualify our child is 12 years old. If I had time I would look the study up and read it.

Thanks again,

Thanks! Actually it said increased appetite if I recall. Either way it is a little lacking of data. I appreciate the input.

Yes I agree, but I am not sure if before the device the children were on medication and therefore when they stopped their appetite increased becuase they are not suppressed any more.

I was intrigued! I think anything can that shows promise could be positive, but not for us at this time.

Wow! I’d have to do more research before actually trying it, but I’m definitely curious.

My husband works for a major university with a behavior health hospital. Though not his department, he got to see some of the things they can do with electric/magnetic therapy, particularly brain implants, and it’s mind blowing. He has literally seen a depressed person brought to giggles by just turning up a dial (well, may be a little more complex than that, but the general idea.)

We’ve been curious why it hasn’t been more prominent in treatment options - maybe things are finally getting out there!

Interesting. I know there is a ton of work being done to target certain areas of the brain for migraines like on the move said and also for seizure disorders. I am also concerned about the side effects but will be watching the research!

Haven’t heard of this. Why only up to 12? Is that answered in the article?
