This coming week, my 15 year-old has an appointment with a psychiatrist. I go for a parent appointment first. What should I expect? What should I bring (report cards)? The appointment is to assess for ADHD/Depression/Anxiety. TIA!

Preparation for Psychiatrist Appt?
They will ask a ton on questipns and go over the questions they gave you ahead of time (I am assuming). Then if you have any questions. I have a binder wss ith all my daughters stuff in it. I would write down all your questions, so you don't forget any. I would bring any papers from the school (if on an IEP bring them, grades or any other important notes you have gotten from school). Anything from his doctor(s) (regular doctors or any specialists he has seen) that might help them up you help your son.
I know it is nerve racking and your stomach is in knottes but you got this. HUGS, HUGS, HUGS, HUGS Good Luck.
Yes, just bring your questions and be ready to talk about everything that’s going on. I cried during my first meeting but that’s ok! Being honest is important. Also bring something to write down all their suggestions.
Your initial appointment is an information gathering session about you and your son. This may include questions about your health, your pregnancy, the child's birth, development, educational and social abilities, etc. They will not need to see report cards during the initial evaluation. There may be a follow-up appointment which will involve completing questionnaires that are scored to determine whether the child has ADHD. You may be referred to a psychologist for full evaluation as well.
