I have done it both ways but I prefer to write them if there is a problem . My son is 14 and if he can hold it together in the teachers class I would prefer they find out about him from him. However if there are academic or behavior problems I give them as much information as I think they need to help him be successful in their class. He would prefer to tell people about his needs himself and not from me. when he was younger I was always stayed in contact with his teachers. It does get easier as they get older and when I got his medication stablized. He is on 4 different brain Meds that help him a lot.

Keep advocating and Best of luck to you !

At the open house before school started, I gave each teacher an info sheet on my son (5th grade). It has his picture and 3 categories of bullet points: things he did well, things he needed help with (like finishing his work) and ways they could help (letting him sit near them, checking to see he is on task)

They all said they were happy to have it.

I always go in and talk with the teachers. I set up meetings asap with the resource team and teacher to put us all on the same page
