CHADD's Public Policy Committee was dismayed by comments made last week attempting to connect Ritalin with school violence.

There is no evidence to support a link between Ritalin, a medication prescribed as part of treatment for ADHD, and school-related violence. In fact, the evidence demonstrates that violence is not a symptom of ADHD or a result of ADHD treatment, and that ADHD alone is not a contributing factor to violent behaviors. Thanks for posting the link to CHADD's statement. Unfortunately, people and organizations will often use scapegoats to deflect attention and cloud the issue when they are in the hot seat. And in this case it is at the cost of furthering the negative stereotype which already surrounds people with ADHD.
