Good morning, FIRST this group has been a BLESSING. My son is 6yr old and in the 1st grade. He is naturally an introvert especially with adults but kids are NO PROBLEM. This year has truly been a challenge. We have a very firm, "old school" teacher who is not innovative in the classroom. Since preK he has not done well with this personality type... he shuts down, will not talk or do his work. After many outburst, throwing his pencil, or knocking over a chair or 2 I knew something was WRONG because this was NOT my happy, sweet kid. After testing, surveys, and observations he was diagnosed with ADD due to his restlessness and inattentiveness. NOW WHAT!!!??? I do feel his teacher has grown WEARY of him this year. The diagnostician even commented her survey answers were all EXTREME and mine where normal which throws up a RED FLAG. What are somethings that I can or should request as far as accommodations in his IEP or 504 plan?

Upcoming ARD Meeting
Good morning, I know it's the end of the school with just weeks to go, and i don't believe your going to accomplish much! But don't stop yet. Have the teacher and the so. Ed. Teacher work together or ask the so. ed teacher to spend more time with him. Have his specialists find more ways to engage him. Find oyt what the triggers are for the out burst. Talk to all teachers and specialist to develop a a plan to encourage more positive behaviors. Think in terms of what would happen if he was in preschool and he was having these issues. At 9 years old, your son maybe able to have a say in his education, invite him to the IEP meeting so he can hear what's going on and what's going to happen. Only if you feel he is attentive enough to participate with out great interruption.
My grandson is only six and a half, we have no invited him to the IEP meet, but have taken him to to behavior meetings. Meetings that he had to have to re-enter school after he's been suppended for a behavior issue. Like when when his behavior involves another student. We meet with the assistant principal to discus what happens, and ways he can keep the behavior from happening again.
Basically if you have a team if teachers and specialists work them to develop a plan that works for him and something the teacher is ALSO willing to do.
Hope that helps some?
