I'm new here, I have a 12 year old son who was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6 years old. It has been a frustruating journey, but I am glad to have found a place to talk. It is still hard to just talk sometimes. Few people really understand what it's like to have a child diagnosed with this disorder. Many times it feels like I'm doing everything wrong when it comes to parenting. After reading a few posts, I'm optimistic I will get great advice the next time I face a dilemma.

Welcome to the pack!
This site not only helps you vent, which we all need, but it also gives you advice and solutions you never thought about before. It has been a blessing for me, as you can also help others who are lost in this lifetime journey.
My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD last year, at age 10, and we started medication 2 months ago. We are still going through the process of what works for her.
She is on 15 mg of Focalin XL ( generic) in the morning with a second dose at 4:00pm of 5mg, short action Focalin. Her Long Action wears off by 4 and she becomes moody and distracted by 4:30-5. Thus, her homework and extracurricular activities suffered. We are also seeing a therapist and I’m researching about natural supplements as well.
I never knew this was so serious until I started researching and hearing others talk about their struggles through life with this disorder .
Check out Dr. Amén clinics and read his books. Also Dr. Russell Barkley ( hope I have the right spelling). Enlightening!
Best of luck!
