Hi like most moms you do our research. School feedback was very negative and i cried during my 8 yr old son parent teacher meeting bc i didnt know the why at first. They all testing lead to ADHD. But he scored high on all testing except reading comprehension. Wish knew how help him or if i should kept him back in 1st grade. Now as second grader he oldest in his class bc of February birthday. But as of August je entering third and alot writing. Im so conflicted on how to help him. Doctor says she seen worse cases than my son. But not sure how justify her reasoning. Were start him on Ginko B. To see how it goes. Any feedback would be grateful. Looking into oils too i heard they help.

Three of my four boys have ADHD. My oldest was diagnosed with inattentive type when he was in third grade. I didn't put him on medication at first because I hoped that we could just help teach him organization skills. The school counselor checked in with him weekly to make sure his desk was clean and to teach him some needed skills.
We figured that if he just learned how to organize it would take care of the "problem" and he'd be just fine. And while learning how to be organized is important, it wasn't just a matter of him being disorganized. He had a hard time staying focused in school and needed the extra help medication gave him (he takes vyvanse). He is a senior in high school now and has done well in most of his classes. I have him check online regularly for missing assigments that he needs to complete. The classes which have been the hardest for him are the ones he found boring which is common for children with ADHD.
ADHD is complicated, and can appear in children with different symptoms. My 13 year old son has trouble focusing, especially if it's boring to him. He needs to move around but he's not hyperactive and disruptive. He does fairly well in school, so he can actually go under the radar. I noticed these things, and I had him evaluated. When I learned he has ADHD I was in the process of switching him from public school to private. In private school there are smaller classes and better teachers. That alone made a big difference. I talked to all of his teachers, and they are on board wth supporting my son. Well, one whole school year later, I noticed is symptoms worsening and growing. He began acting impulsively, even dangerously. That's when I realized medication is necessary. He takes Vyvanse and does so well now. People with ADHD do not produce enough of a chemical in their brains that helps them to focus. Medication helps them do that. Meds are necessary! I hope you consider medication for your child. I'm so glad I did. Good luck!
