I live in NJ. My mom lives in Va. My ex lives in Pa. Our son was kicked out of the before care program for his aggressive behavior. I have to work so it makes things extremely complicated. I’m anxious that if I put him in a traditional daycare for before and after care he will misbehave and get kicked out. He has a therapist that visits once a week. We are trying to get him to use his words instead of expressing himself physically. It’s a draining process. For now, we have a sitter coming to the house to take him to the bus stop but it’s draining our pockets. Are there any services for children with ADHD to assist financially? I know if he had a physical disability it would be easier but for some reason ADHD doesn’t seems to get recognized the same way because it’s not as noticeable (I’m assuming). Please advise.

Hi. Just want to let you know you are certainly not alone. I don't know where you are in NJ, but we have a strong CHADD support group in Monmouth and Ocean counties. You can find us on Meetup: TRI-CHADD NJ. There is also an affiliate in Mercer. Not sure if there are others in NJ. Participating in a CHADD support group for parents gives you access to tons of information and resources that may help you. Also, perhaps you can reach out to your local Family Support Center, FSO (Family Support Organization), PerformCare (Children's Mobile Response) for resources for "special needs" families. You're right, ADD/ADHD is still an "invisible disability," and it isn't easy to access the resources you and your child need and deserve.
Thank you for the information. We have performcare involved. He sees a therapist for 2-3 hours in home. He refuses to interact with her most times. He blames the therapist for him having to earn tv and game time so sometimes their meetings are unproductive
I live in South Jersey and haven’t had any luck finding something local. All of the CHADD locations are so far from me. Maybe I could go to one on the weekend if available.
My sons therapist mentioned FSO. I haven’t tried that one yet. I’ll look into it. Thank you for the information 😃
