My 5 year old was diagnosed with ADHD at 4 because her preschool was concerned hers is more focus based. We decided to put her through a second year of preschool because she knew no letters and numbers now in her second year she still doesn’t know any and she needs to go to kindergarten next year. Everytime I️ work with her she just says I️ don’t know and I️ tell her she repeats and 20 seconds later it’s gone. Any suggestions on how to teach a 5 year old girl her letters and numbers and get her attention.

Hi there, I understand your frustration. I’m a mother to a 3.5 year old. I see my son has a different way of learning than his preschool classmates. They can learn as a group. My son has NOT been diagnosed but I see signs of his Uniqueness. He literally walks away if all the kids congregate into a large group. (Circle time).
He learns quietly thru his own interests. He learned the alphabet, Numbers 1-20 at 2-3 yrs old along with shapes. So, he’s become pretty bored in his class lessons. He loves to play and socialize tho. That’s where he struggles.
He loves trucks. So, I’ve used Trucks as his Focus tool to learn to count... 1 truck 2 truck 3 truck etc. Red truck Blue truck Yellow truck.
I try being creative with his interests and incorporate it into what he needs to learn. My son is bright, he learns fast when he’s interested. So, I try to keep him interested.
Maybe you can try using a similar strategy?
I hope this helps.
