My 6 year old son started biphentin early this year. Since starting it, he has improved significantly at school. He has not had any major behavioural problems, he participates in circle time, and he attempts writing and math. Lately he has been refusing to take it since he thinks he is better now. He cannot swallow it, so I open up the pill and mix the capsules into his food - but apparently the capsules taste sour.
The teacher says without it he does not participate in writing and math, is wiggly on the carpet, and it is affecting his ability to learn.
FYI - I have tried hiding it is all sorts of food - muffins, peanut butter, icecream, donuts, strawberries, etc.
Any suggestions?

My son doesn’t like his medication either. One time when he was refusing to take it I asked him, “do you like behaving at school and getting all your stars?” When he said yes, I said “ this medicine is helping you do that.” It helps that I also take medication daily, so I can empathize with him.
Does the medication come in a liquid form? My son can’t take pills either, so we get liquid versions any chance we can.
I was having the same problem with my 6 yr old ADHD son. He took his medicine fine then one day he decided he didn’t want to anymore. He loves his pediatrician so I called her and she said she would talk to him. She explained that everyone’s body is different and many people need medicines to help, whether you feel it or not. Now he (eventually) takes his meds in the mornings but the afternoon boosters continue to be a traumatic event. Unfortunately threats to take things away (iPad, toys, playtime, etc) if he doesn’t take it is the only thing that’s working at this moment.
