Unsure about medicating

Our 7 year old son was officially diagnosed with ADHD, Combined Presentation this week. His Pediatrician pre-diagnosed him this Spring, but it was confirmed this last week through testing done by an Educational Psychologist. The Pediatrician started talking about Medications right away. We're not opposed to the idea, but we don't know enough about it. I'm starting to do research into all the options available, in regards to meds or no meds. I'm hoping some of you would be willing to share advice or insights into this. Thanks so much.

Best advice I can think of is to research, research, research! We looked at each and every option available to us. In the end we decided to work with the school and were given a 504 plan, that in combination with new strategies at home, and a lot of hard work on our part and my sons led us to the decision to go unmedicated for now! He is succeeding with all these new strategies, and we figured we would try these new efforts first and if we ever need additional help medication is always an option later. To be honest, parent to parent, I am much more open to the idea of medicating my 15 year old instead of my 10 year old! Good Luck! You know what works for you and your kid, trust your gut!
