Azstarys experience

Hi! My son was seen by a child psychiatrist for the first time today. He wants to trial him on Azstarys to see what helps him best with impulse control and hyperactivity. He’s actually not the combined type.. he’s the hyperactive / impulsive adhd type. Sharing any experiences your kids have had on this medication would be appreciated! He’ll be starting it tomorrow or the day after. Thank you!!

my daughter is on it & it’s a wonderful experience. We’ve tried others but this one has been the best. My only advice is to not go up to fast. It’s about them learning strategies and having meds. We’ve had to come back down one level once we figured it out. It shouldn’t change their personality.

I’ve never heard of this med. it’s not even on my gene sight test. Is it a stimulant or constituent?

My understanding of it from the psychiatrist is that it’s a stimulant similar to focalin (same family), but that Azstarys is more of a slow and controlled release throughout the day to get more coverage - up to 13hrs. It starts working in 30 min but it’s less noticeable when it kicks in and wears off.

Thank you for sharing that! I am so happy for you all that you found the right fit. How long before you felt the right balance was achieved for your daughter? Did you see more improvements over time? He’s starting on the lowest of the 3 doses.

Agree. It has a good sustained effect for those who respond. Make sure you use the company's discount coupon/copay card if you have private insurance.

we've been on it a month. Required pre approval from our insurance or coupon after first free trial only gets it down to $100. If ins approves it comes down to $25 w manufacturer coupon. .it's the best med so far for my 8 yr old. We've tried them all. But Astarys is the best. We still have to add two IR 5 mg at 330 and 6pm. On highest dose after a month. Rx started at highest dose but I used microscale to open capsule and measure out the middle dose and we slowly went up over 4 weeks to highest dose. Open capsule and put powder in 4oz water . Citic acid or any acid decreases it's affect. Excess fats for breakfast increase its release. My son metabolizes Methylphenidate extremely fast and this is the longest acting stimulant we've found. He also takes 1/2 a 100mg Amantadine. 1/2 AM and 1/2 at 3:30. Off label use for ADHD anxiety and to decrease ocd from stimulant.
