I have an 8 year old grandson that I am guardian of that was diagnosed with ADHD at 3 and has been on Methyphenidate ever since except during the summers. I am at such a dilemma about the medication as I don't feel it is good for him. My day care provider says that he behaves better during the summer when he is off the medication. I am debating whether I should have the school set up an IEP and take him off the medication and change his diet and try some natural remedies. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks, Debbi

Your child has been on the medication for years, he's grown and changed a lot. It certainly seems reasonable to see how he does without it for a while. If you find that he's really struggling without it, maybe a different medicine would work better at this point in his life.
It wouldn't hurt to try it. But daycare is a lot different from school. School is structured from 8 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon. Day cares have activity centers, loss of free play, go on field trips etc etc. My grandson who got in lots of trouble in school never got in trouble at daycare.
