i am new to this community and am very new to figuring out what all ADHD actually is. My 9 year old son was diagnosed just two months ago. he is on 30mg of vivanse and while we are all seeing an improvement as far as his hyperactivity, that is about it and it's only to a certain degree. my main issue with him right now is talking too much in school, frustration, organization and forgetting EVERYTHING! forgetting to write assignments down in his planner, forgetting the actual assignment, forgetting the books to do the assignment, forgetting simple tasks i just told him two minutes before hand. like i said i am new to this but any advice on the forgetfulness will greatly be appreciated. i've asked his teacher if she could send the homework to me so that i may double check that it is a-written down correctly and b- that it actually gets done only to be met with excuses of why she can't. i know the other will work itself out between time, medication, therapy etc., but i need real help on giving him the proper tools to keep himself organized so that he does not FORGET anything and calm. HELLLLLPPPPP!!!!

I am new here as well, and my 9-year-old grandson was diagnosed at at Age 4. He was started out on Vyvanse as well on 10 mg, the lowest dosage. 30 mg sounds about right, but your son may need to have it increased. I understand your frustration, and it seems with every child that there are no easy answers. The main problem for our grandson with these meds is that it kills his appetite, and his growth was affected to the point that we took him off the medicine for about a year. We eventually started him back on a different kind, the generic form of Concerta XR, which seemed to help him be more focused in school and do better there, but when it wore off we had more behavior problems at home. It also killed his appetite, so we gave him a break from the meds after school was out last year. Now we are back at Square One again, trying to decide what to do. He is very resistant to taking it again and says he knows he can do better at school if we will give him another chance. I wish that I had some answers for you. We have the same problems with our grandson not following through with the everyday things he needs to do. It is very exhausting. I know exactly how you feel.
