Hi I am a mom to seven year old daughter diagnosed with ADHD early this year. I initially had her in private school since 4 yrs old, as symptoms of ADHD increased the school requested that I get her evaluated for ADHD and ODD due to behavior outbursts. By that time the classroom dynamic and teacher/student relationship with my daughter was not healthy. By the time I'd had enough I was picking her up almost everyday due to her melt downs in class and their inability to help her calm down. My baby girl was telling me she "did not belong in this world because she was a bad person". I pulled her out and enrolled her in our neighborhood public school, where she flourished and only had a couple issues the rest of the school year. I only mentioned to the new teacher that she had been diagnosed with ADHD (no IEP) and she was able to re-direct her when she noticed that she was struggling. I had her privately evaluated by an educational psychologist and was provided the results. Due to recent events this school year in class and behaviors in after school care she's gonna need some counseling and tutoring. If I want the school to provide additional services do I just take those documents to the school and ask to have an IEP/504 plan administered? Or do they have to do their own evaluation again?

Hi Deenice. I know that with my son, we have a 504 plan. He was diagnosed by his pediatrician. I informed the school and requested to have a meeting regarding a 504 for him. We all sat around the table and I had to give them reasons why he needed this 504 plan and how it would make him more successful in school. They approved it. They did not diagnose him due to the fact he already was diagnosed by his doctor, which I did provide that paperwork. Request a 504 or IEP meeting with the school district. I believe you have to do it in writing. Good Luck!
