Rivaroxaban for life?

Hi, a brief history to begin. In 2004 I had a Pulmonary Embolism as a result of surgery, 6 months on Warfarin followed.

Fast forward to 2017, and a d.v.t., was found in my right calf, completely out of nowhere, no surgery etc. I was put on Rivaroxaban for 3 months, and referred to Haemostasis/thrombosis clinic. After several blood tests, nothing was found, came off Rivaroxaban. The first d.v.t., was found in Feb 2017, then in November 2017, I had another d.v.t. same leg, different position. Back on Rivaroxaban indefinitely.

I have done some research of my own, (no i'm not a hypochondriac, I like to find reasons for these things) and discovered that severe B12 Deficiency, can possibly, over time, increase the risk of having more clots?

I was just wondering if anyone else had come across this information? I tried to discuss my findings with my g.p., but she wasn't interested. My own B12 reading is low/normal.

I was informed on Friday of last week that I will now be on Rivaroxaban for the rest of my life, but they have (in my opinion) no interest in finding out WHY after 14 years I have suddenly had 2 unprovoked d.v.t.'s within 12 months.

Anyway, i'd be interested to hear if anyone else has heard the B12 connection? Or are having d.v.t.'s for unknown reasons.

Thanks

Have a great day..

You could have sticky blood look at the GHIC website or check the nhs site for antiphospholipid syndrome / hughes

Good luck you may have to fight to get tested for this

I'm on it indefinitely after unproked multiple bilateral PEs about 15 months ago. You could be right about the vitamin B12 connection - I suspect mine is a bit low. Might take supplements and see if there is any difference. But I don't mind being on rivaroxaban - the only thing I've noticed is that red wine doesn't taste as good as it used to buy that might be my age....

Hello

I also suffer from DVT

It all started in 2016 when coming back after a holiday afew days passed an I had pain in my calf ..was a dvt so was treated with rivaoxiban..it went away and life was good again .Then about 6 months later for no apparent reason I had another one same leg same place same treatment. Then after this had gone I started getting outbreaks of phlebitus and I was kept on the rivaoxiban which seemed to control this .after a year or so my doctor said to have my saphenous veins lasered closed to come off the rivaoxiban. This I had done and very painful it was too .Once it had settled I came off the rivaoxiban and everything seemed fine again ...6 months down the road my body started producing micro clots which go unnoticed pain and symptom wise untill they build up in your lungs ..Yes que embolism thought I was going to die from the pain and shortness of breath !! Got back to hospital and now back on my old friend rivaoxiban for life by looks of it. Investigation now continues as to why an otherwise fit and healthy man who is very active should get this ?? Thoughts
