Discover a groundbreaking study on how MRI scans could revolutionize prostate cancer screening. Conducted in Germany with 593 men, this research reveals that using MRI before biopsy can avoid unnecessary procedures for nearly half of patients with negative MRI results. Learn how the study was conducted, its impressive 96% negative predictive value, and the potential for cost savings and reduced anxiety. While challenges remain, such as ensuring expert radiologists and structured follow-up programs, this MRI-first approach represents a significant step towards personalized prostate cancer care. Explore the implications for patients, healthcare systems, and future research.

A friendly reply. Perhaps in the New Year a more supportive, assertive, leadership perspective could be taken on use of mpMRI. I based this on my experiences. Ten years ago, ten, I was introduced to mpMRI by a urologist in London, England who found a lesion on my gland with a far more through DRE than had been done by my long established urologist back home in Texas. A lesion that was likely missed for several years. I did ask that urologist about mpMRI - he said he simply did not use them. I did have two, one via my long established urologist and a better one in London (I like comparisons and second opinions).

Here in this discussion there is still a lot on negative biopsies, over treatment, costs, etc. Yet today, ten years later, the death rate from this disease and the number of men on ADT and the number of men facing CR are all rising, not falling.

All the best to all of us and hopefully a better year for all men facing this beast.
