having developed Trigeminal Neuralgia in 2023 from the impact of my AN, I started Carbamazepine in Dec 2023.
Although this has reduced headaches considerably I’m now left (6months on) with severe motivation issues. I just struggle to do anything other than respond.
Has anyone else found a way to tackle this please? I’m finding the lack of motivation quite depressing.

Hi, it’s really hard, I feel the lack of omph too a fair bit of the time. I actually had a session of hypnotherapy via The Brainstrust charity yesterday and asked for it to focus on motivation, even to do things i enjoy. We had a really helpful discussion about this before the session. You’re not on your own with this. I’d strongly recommend you contact them and see if you can get some peer support, coaching or/and join the weekly refresh hypnotherapy sessions. A couple of helpful tips were to reduce social media scrolling, and just do a tiny bit of what ever you’re wanting to do but can’t quite tackle. Eg if it’s to get out the house/exercise, just go on a 5 minute walk. If it’s a big ‘to do’ list, just do the first one. Small bite sizes. And be kind to yourself. But of course that’s over simplifying, there are lots of layers and it’s good to get help with it. It’s a tricky diagnosis and although we do adapt, it takes a fair bit of energy. You deserve support and care, give them a call/email. Lin 😎
I see myself as almost becoming introvert which is my opposite. I have to force myself to meet people which is so draining. Worst of all, that’s my job.
How are you doing? Just thought I’d check in to see if you’d been in touch with the brainstrust and joined any of the support groups/ hypnotherapy sessions or found a peer supporter with them? Don’t forget you are not alone with how you’re feeling 😎
