Hi all, i had gamma knife in september 2023 and since then I've noticed my left eye is twitching. I think my next scan will be september this year. Should i speak to the consultant regarding the twitching or just wait for my next telephone appointment in august.

I had this post-gamma knife surgery. I rang the consultants secretary and she referred me to opthalmology. I had upper and lower lid twitching.

Saw the eye docs a couple of weeks later and had mild botox in both upper and lower lids. It eased the twitching in days, and although the botox wears off after 12 weeks or so, my twitching hasn't come back. Don't delay ringing, it's a very common side effect, and easily treated.

Thank you for the advice. I will ring on monday. I didn't realise it could be a side effect from the gamma knife. It's just my upper eye lid twitching, from side to side.

I’ve had this post treatment on and off, and my cheek and chin at times. My latest scan showed some swelling and I was prescribed steroids but it completely stopped before I started taking them so I didn’t bother. It’s a common thing fit those of us with ANs, treated or not, as it impacts on the facial nerve. If you’re worried at any time about any symptoms do just ring your skull based nurse, of course, but I think you’ll also find it might just stop soon. Mine seems to flare a bit if dehydrated and tired.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if it was a symptom of the AN, or like the previous post mentioned a side effect from the gamma knife.

It’s from the an impacting on the facial nerve, so could either, as the treatment can make it so swell in there before it does its job! Nothing to be frightened of ( it’s weird though I know).
