My adult son suddenly lost the hearing in one ear, rapidly followed by vertigo and now tinnitus, which he describes as ringing in his head and now also a dripping noise. Has been to Nurse and GP and finally a referral to ENT.......but the waiting list is months.
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thank you

The same thing happened to me 2 years ago. I was referred for a MRI scan but told it could be unto 6 months. I was advised I could pay privately for the scan which I did and got the results back within 4 days. I was worth the £350 to at least get the diagnosis.
I wouldn’t worry too much! There are so many things that cause these vestibular issues, I know 2 people at work with exactly the same symptoms. AN is quite rare and it’s most likely not that! I’ve had symptoms for 14yrs with various scans along the way. Only now have they seen a ‘possible AN’ and I’ve got to wait 3wks for the re-scan to confirm.
If there's any chance of going private..take it. I had a private scan which confirmed AN within weeks. I understand the difficulties with expense so it's not accessible for everyone. I am BUPA covered by work and ended up with surgery at Harley Street. Even the best of the best present with problems..I had a rare bad reaction to surgery and ended up in hospital for months. The NHS route is just as skilled but longer to wait. With regard to your son try not to overthink it. AN (if it is this) is a very slow growing tumour and will not cause an emergency waiting for the scan. Remember his symptoms can be attributed to a lot of other conditions. All this doesn't help the no mans land of waiting of course but keeping positive is key. Good luck.
