For those that have had a near total resection of tumor, how much did they leave ?
From my understanding a near total resection they should be removing 90-95% if not more of the tumor. My mri 3 months on now shows 1.5cm x 1.1 cm from a 4.5cm x 2.5cm.

Morning… from what I was told when I had my AN debunked in April this year, 93-95% was removed. I had an MRI scan the day after surgery, which I was shown, and there was a very small slither left. I was originally told that I would be called up to Kings hospital for a follow up appointment and MRI scan to check growth. However, this has now been turned into a phone call check up in August, 4 months after surgery. I’m disappointed there won’t be an MRI as I’m anxious about regrowth. Maybe get in touch with your consultants Secretary to try to speak to someone? Be interesting to hear the outcome. Take care B x
I was on the phone to the consultant secretary and the surgeons nurse/sister consultant yesterday. This is how I’ve found out about the size. Then when I asked how is it that big when they was meant to of left a tiny bit, it’s either growing back rapidly or I’ve been lied to about the size. 20 minutes later I’m getting a call back asking me to go in and see the surgeon today. So I’ve got a nice 210 mile round trip just to see him today. Obviously it’s important to me to go and travel , it’s clearly important to them to make a consultation face to face so quickly.
They should make another MRI around the 6 month mark as they did the baseline scan straight after. Push to make sure they do so.
I know if it wasn’t on my brainstem where they left it , I wouldn’t be so annoyed and concerned, but it is and I’ve started to get some symptoms which had gone come back.
Oh no… well you are being seen quickly which is good, and I hope you get some proper answers. Unless you have a tumour in your head, no one understands the angst it causes.. fingers crossed for you, let us all know how it pans out. I will indeed push for an MRI. Although I was shown the one taken straight after the op, I wasn’t really completely with it to be honest & am always a bit anxious about regrowth.. take care, B x
So the surgeon reckons that what has been scanned is a tiny bit of what’s there in terms of volume. But couldn’t tell me the depth of tumor pre op and now. Getting referred back to the hospital where I should of had the op at, so once that’s done I’ll seek a second opinion.
