I'm writing this in behalf of my husband who has an AN, he is waiting on gamma knife ... he has a telephone consultation next Thursday with Sheffield. how long did you wait after consultation for treatment? Also could you still work after treatment?
What side effects and how long after this did it happen?
Would appreciate advice..

Hi Helen, it is also my wife that has the neuroma. We were referred to Sheffield by dr o Donaghue based in nottingham ( we are in derby). They said they could do the surgery but there was problem with their bupa registration ended up wasting 6 weeks. Had the surgery done in Leeds very quick and responsive. Not sure of the wait times on the NHS? My wife has not been able to work for over a year now and is really struggling at the moment but we are all different, Hope this helps, feel free to keep asking
As Leodo has said we are all different. I had Fractionated Stereotactic Radiosurgery 20 years ago in the USA. This is a different radiosurgical procedure where the total dose is given in 4 separate treatments (hence "fractionated"). Although I took time off work as I had to travel to the USA to be treated, people resident in New York simply took their treatments on the way to and from work so no sick leave at all was required. I worked for 15 years after my treatment and was promoted twice in that period, so for many people radiosurgery hardly interrupts their lives, for others like Leodo's wife, the outcome is less clear cut.
I had Gamma knife (GN) in 2002 and had a 32% shrinkage of the dead 1.5 cm AN. The GK was done in the AM and I was home that afternoon fixing a flat on my wife's van. There doesn't seem to be any after affects of GK except maybe when they don't kill off all of the AN. There will though, be problems with balance, hearing, tinnitus, memory loss, pain in the cerebellum, etc., which has to do with the AN and not the GK surgery. The best way to deal with these problems is to do brain exercises to reset your cerebellum. Go to this link for these exercises:
