long-term desolation

I am 84, in good physical health, live in a nurturing home environment, retain my intellectual capacity (as an author). I have an excellent health centre, and keep 'in balance' by medication. My local hospital is one of the finest teaching hospitals in the UK.

But I have one puzzling question. Why, during most of my adult life, has the condition not been diagnosed until I was in my forties? And why have I never been referred to a psychiatrist/psychologist on a one-to--one basis. I ask because even tho' the medication keeps me more or less level. I have phases where I collapse and there is a severe physical reaction. I think that, even though we are now thinking holistically, i have yet to encounter any physician who combines the two. Haven't they heard of Jung or Freud?
