Fibroid in the adenomyosis or just adenomyosis?

Morning everyone.

Has anyone experienced a kind, sort of misdiagnosis with regards to adenomyosis and fibroid?

Have had adenomyosis for 20 years and the symptoms have been usually and pretty much the same: heavy bleeding with just SOME blood clots and in the past year middle cycle bleeding/spotting.

In January, although having the Mirena in for the last couple of months, my middle cycle bleeding started again and was heavy bleeding with passing MANY big big blood clots through in the evening.

Went to the A&E in Italy and they saw a fibroid of 8cm with no definite margins together with adenomyosis. Mirena still in place.

Managed to flight back to London and my friend took me to the Saint Mary’s Hospital and they confirmed the fibroid of 8cm with no definite margins and adenomyosis. No signs of Mirena anymore.

Was given bio identical progesterone which cut my persistent bleeding by 90%.

The period came on and I restarted bleeding like crazy with blood clots passing through that almost I felt like fainting.

Admitted to the UCLH where I was scanned again and they do not see any fibroid.

Anyone who has gone through something like that? I need to decide the treatment but want to make sure it will be for the right thing. They say it’s just the adenomyosis becoming more symptomatic. But to be honest I don’t believe that.

Anyone?

Thanks

Federica

Hello Fedeg, are you able to speak with your Dr and ask if they can refer you for a Transvaginal scan. Not just an over the tummy scan but the one where they put the scanner/wand inside your vagina. This is probably the first line for finding a fibroid. If the bleeding is interfering with your day to day life and making you faint it will no doubt be making you anaemic aswell. When you know for definite about a possible fibroid then you will be able to have a proper plan of action. I had terrible bleeding and the Transvaginal scan was one of the first things I had after trying Tranexamic acid which didn’t work for bleeding. I also said I didn’t want a Mirena coil( mainly because I’m a wimp and I thought I’d lose it anyway in the huge clots I was having).

Hi Eeeeebygum

Yes I did several ultrasound scans. Who says that I do have a fibroid. Others that I don’t.

The only other option would be the one with the camera inside the womb which I will discuss soon with my gyne
