Upcoming smear test

I have my first smear test in the next few weeks. I was wondering what it will be like. Will I be asked any questions before hand? What is the general experience of the procedure like. How does it compare to a internal exam or internal ultrasound. I am wanting to know as doctors appointments in general make me very nervous and anxious and want to prepare myself before hand.

Thanks

Hi cabbage 😊

It's quite normal to be apprehensive about a procedure you've never had before :-)

I prefer to be prepared :-)

In my experience it doesn't take long, it was normally done by the practice nurse, and I would equate the procedure to being similar to an internal exam, apart from a speclum being used.

nhs.uk/conditions/cervical-screening-test will provide information.

Best wishes 😊xB
