Hi mr1pac,

I suggest you ask the person who told you that why they are of that opinion.

I can't see any great problem with it. Of course, there are some risks, like falling off or crashing and I probably wouldn't recommend it to people with bad knees, but other than that, it's quite a good form of exercise.

for some men it is but they also need to be aware of any possible risks. pointless improving one area of your ehalth if it impacts negatively on another. check out peritoneal compression for one unmentioned risk of regular cycling. also for people who have not exrcised for a while mountain biking can be a very strenuous start, especially if you are very overweight. if in doubt talk to yuor GP first, then your bike shop.

Just the embarrassment of little kids whizzing past! Initially anyway.

After a while I was doing 28 miles a day cycling to and from work. It’s then that the pounds really drop off!

Unfortunately I no longer work there - it's now 20 miles to work; a 40 mile round trip ... one day I may just try it though!

Whoever told you that is talking absolute rubbish. How can bike riding be bad for men? Unless you get run over by a car that is! How much do you want to spend? Stay away from cheap halford's full suspension bikes. They're really bad and the suspension hinders more than helps when they're really cheap. Look at getting fully rigid and front suspension. Something like this is a good beginner mountain bike

Sorry to contradict a poular consensus but these replies are not quite correct. According to some of the research there is one aspect of riding bykes that is not good for men, but it doesn't amount to enough to say don't do it.y You need to be sure when you ride that you do not just sit in the saddle all the time as this puts pressure on the peritoneum (between your legs) and can affect circulation in that area as well as damage nerves. Many cyclists are not aware of this though the debate has been going for some time. The condition is known as cycling-induced perineal compression and it can lead to the development of erection problems and permanent damage. Check that you use a properly fitted bike with a good seat and stand in the pedals often to relieve the pressure. As with any new exercise be sure you are capable of what you are trying to do, especially if you have not done any exercise for a while or have a chronic condition such as high bood pressure..
