Hello and welcome to the forum :),

Diet's just don't work, they give the impression there is a start and finish date. To lose weight you need to think about a change of lifestyle that is going to be sustainable and enjoyable for life. I think you will probably find plenty of people here who still manage to enjoy a drink, but also learn along the way that it has to be in moderation :)

If you haven't already, please take the time to read the Welcome Newbie post, this will help you to navigate the forum, which is best done using the full website and not the app.

Please also take a look at all of the Challenges, Clubs and Events that we have, to help to keep you motivated and engaged with the forum.

The above link will take you to all the information you need. Participation is key to success and I would recommend that you at least join the Daily Diary and a Weigh In day of your choice.

As a peer to peer support group, we all benefit from encouragement and support from one another, so look forward to seeing you join in around the forum :)

Wishing you the best of luck on your weight loss journey :)

Hi Brandy I've just changed my eating habits to a low GI diet which has actually stopped all my cravings for ice cream and chocolate which is amazing. I did a lot of reading about the benefits of a glass of wine and have started to have the odd glass of Rose. Not every night - perhaps 3 nights a week and just one glass. As I am being successful so far with my new eating regime that is keeping me on the straight and narrow as far as having too much wine or food.

Enjoy every sip!

Hi Funky Gibbon. It’s encouraging to hear your having a good success with a low HI diet. Can I ask where you get your eating ideas from to follow this specific diet?? I am desperate to reduce my sweet cravings.. but I have no will power?.. just wish the cravings would stop?? With the Mind-boggling mountain of diet ideas around..I . would find it very useful If you could advise me “which diets”’you are following??? Best wishes for more weight loss btw!! 👍🏽

Hi transition vamp. Well I heard Boy George talking on the radio saying that he had lost about 3 stone cutting out sugars which includes carbohydrates. So basically I did lots of research about which food have low carbs and then looked up low carb recipes. I'm not following a specific diet format but I'm just not eating anything processed or white. I'm eating lots of fish, brown pasta, eggs, fruit and veg. There are loads of recipes online for low GI menus. I plan out what I'm going to eat for the week and then do a shopping list and stick to it. It's a bit of work but worth it as I haven't craved a magnum since I started! That's a real miracle for me. Anyway have a google and you'll soon find loads of info. I think the trick is to just accept that this is the way to eat now and not think of it as a diet as such. I've set myself a time line of 3 months to see how I do. I also don't weigh myself as that depresses me too much. I'm going to go on how clothes fit me. I have just bought a lovely new dress to wear and it's a bit tight on the tummy so hopefully by July it will fit me.

Let me know how you get on :)

There are some good visual guides to the different food groups and carb content here, though it sounds as though you've done plenty of your own research :)

There is the, 'Red Wine Diet', I haven't tried it myself. I suspect it just builds the calories in a glass of wine into the calorie intake. You could do that anyway. About ten percent of daily calories can be for, 'fun food' and/or alcohol if you're so inclined.

The Mediterranean diet might suit you. A lot of people have found that this works.

I'm not advocating consuming alcohol. However, I like a measure of Bacardi with diet coke on Saturday evening. That's fifty calories for the Bacardi and next to nothing for the diet coke. I like a glass of wine with dinner on Sunday. I allow about 100 or so calories for that. Which I build into my calorie allowance.

It's the same if I'm having a bar of chocolate or dessert. Just build that into your meal plan calories.

Look up the calorie content of your preferred alcoholic drink and, 'allocate' that many calories for it that day. Everything in moderation of course ! You probably didn't need to be told that, sorry.

Here's a joke from the late Tommy Cooper: 'I'm on the whisky diet. So far I've lost three days !'

That's if you are calorie counting. It's not the only way, though.

Just sayin'

Correct.

Low carb/high fat diet, you can drink alcohol. You have to count the carbs in the wine (or estimate them), and include them in your allowance. Most clear spirits are zero carbs. Beer is almost certainly not allowed.

If you calorie count can add them into your allowance so long as not every day as wasted calories but I allow my self wine on a weekend. Too much wine( or any alcohol) can give you the munchies though so be careful

Thanka for your ideas.

If I have to count the calories in wine, I will be careful
