The Truth About is being repeated on BBC 1, and late tonight is the episode on fat. I found the whole series very enlightening when it was first shown.

Thanks for the tip.

You seem to have lost your badge, I've given you a Working at it one. If you've reached the weight you're happy with, let us know and we'll give you a Maintainer one :)

You had a Maintainer badge? Do you want it back? Maybe it fell off when you were running :D

I’m good... I’m pretty happy as long as I’m only just over healthy BMI, everything else in life says I’m healthy, and it’ll come back down over the spring.

Thanks.

I watched it, but I was not impressed.

They kept referencing to the fat-makes-you-fat meme without challenging it in any way, like when the host walks away from the MRI saying "it makes me want to never eat fat again".

They do the cloudy-blood trick, which I thought was sneaky on Game Changes, but expected better of the BBC. The implication was that fat in your blood is bad, but they didn't provide any proof. How do they imagine fat would be transported for your body to utilise except in the blood stream? They seemed to be implying that burger and chips were no worse than salmon and avocado, because they both made the blood cloudy. Too bad there is no visual marker for glucose. Perhaps they should have tasted the blood, and we could have been told how sweet the burger guy's blood was! The only thing this cloudy plasma slight of hand does is increase irrational fat phobia.

Then they make them eat no fat for a week, but I can't understand what that is trying to prove. At the end of it, they share any bloods or even weights, they just all say it was really hard and they really crave fat. Well, duh. A better test would have been high fat, or maybe some high fat and some low fat. I am guessing they didn't because you would see how well people would do on high fat, and they don't want to undermine the NHS's message.

The lazy cutaways to the torsos of obese people, and shots of fatty food. What I noticed is that almost every high fat food they show is also high carb, starting with a doughnut.

They never mention insulin at all.

Oh, and the host think 190C is "nearly twice" 100C 🤣

Disappointed, BBC.

(I know it's 4 years old. I wouldn't have spotted a lot of the flaws 4 years ago, but the science was out there)

I think they did point out that we need fat... but neglected to mention that it takes a long time to fully digest so you remain fuller longer, that cloudy plasma would have been so for a while on high fat, and it’s a good thing!

Each show was presented differently, the getting fit one was amazing and the calories one was pretty good. If memory serves they had one on healthy eating, I’d have to watch wether it pulls the fat and calories one together, I can’t remember... it did destroy the superfood myth though!
