I do Slimming World which I know isn't popular on this forum, but actually want to understand the calories I am taking in as well as getting the balance of different food groups, as I am very aware that in reality nothing is "free food". There's no way a massive bowl of pasta every day is actually going to work for me long-term! Haha.
My Fitness Pal recommends 1200 calories a day, but the NHS website states a range of 1819 - 2338 kcal.. So there is quite a difference.. Which one should I follow? Any thoughts or advice is appreciated!
Thank you x

Good morning, and I agree, no food is ‘free’ . . . All calories count ☹️
Definitely go with the NHS one, and remember it’s easier to reduce if your weight loss stalls. 😊. MFP is a bit stingy, and allows for you to ‘earn’ back calories from exercise, which is quite a tricky thing to do.
hello, Anushka6, I've never done SW but I have done WW ( twice, because having taken it all off I put it all back on again, and then did a second go to take it all off again and since then I have put it all back on again!)
So now I am here and I count calories. I find calories much more simple and straight forward, although I do try to eat a balanced diet and I keep an eye on the fibre.
1200 cals sounds awfully low to me.
I started with the low end of the NHS figure, and when the weather got cold I found I was struggling so I put it up a bit.
You can always adjust it yourself, it's a question of what works for you.
I have found this to be a very helpful and supportive website, people are very kind and positive, there is a maintainers' club, and that is my goal!
Good luck with your goals and have a very good 2020.
Definitely go with the nhs bmi figure. If you count calories pitch it in the middle to lower end, depending on how much exercise you take.
As Indigo blue says, no food is free. I had a look at slimming world and was surprised at what they recommend as "free foods"! I don't count calories as I can't do numbers easily so I am not sure how they control the food intake!
