I’ve just joined up today and full of enthusiasm. But I was eating chocolate whilst I filled out my profile! That’s my biggest problem, I’m addicted to the stuff! I used to be a smoker years ago and was able to give it up cold turkey no problems but chocolate, chocolate is way harder than that. Anyone out there who can relate and can share some ways to cope with chocolate withdrawal! 😀

Hello, Amrena19, and welcome to the forum :)

This may help you understand what's going on with your chocolate addiction well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013...

My way of dealing with things that I can't just have one of is not to have them in the house. Is that something you could do?

The forum is a busy place so we've put all the information you need in a Welcome post. I've tagged you there so do drop in to see what's on offer. I recommend joining a weekly weigh in on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary for male planning and sharing ideas. This tells you more healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Active participation does pay off so I hope we'll see you around :)

Hello

Like you I have signed up today too! Chocolate is my weakness aswell. I guess we all have that something that tempts us. I'm going to look at making my self treat bags of an evening of low calorie snacks & look at what we would give children like buttons fredo etc as it's a smaller portion but we still get that milk chocolate fix! Good luck with your weight loss :)

Hi, Change4thebetter, and welcome to the forum :)

Please read the information and follow the links I've given Amrena. If you can manage to eat a small quantity of chocolate like that, you may be fine, but many people find that starting off on something sweet triggers them to want more. You will know yourself which camp you fall into.

To get the best out of the forum, come here as often as you can, read, join in chats, encourage others and, particularly join a weigh in and use the Daily Diary - again, all directions are in my reply to Amrena.

Wishing you every success :)

Hello Amrena19 welcome on board. One of the admins will be along soon to give you all the info you need. Make sure you have a good read.

As far as the chocolate goes I can sympathise. If it’s in the house I can sniff it out and it’s mine 😂. Thats why I don’t have it in the house. If it’s not there I can’t eat it. 😊

Oh I can really empathise! I used to be a complete chocoholic but it has much less of a hold on me now. I have given chocolate up for a sponsored event a few years ago and once to support a friend giving it up for lent, so knew I could do it but always got back into the daily (at least!) habit. When I started on here I had reduced down to one small chocolate “treat” a day, as part of my calorie allowance and found I could stick to that due to the commitment I made to myself to write absolutely everything I ate down-that food diary was critical for me. Since then I have moved to a lower carb approach and without doubt that has really helped curb my cravings-in fact I actually feel sick if I eat more than a few squares of chocolate now. I do still enjoy that little bit every now and then but just as I enjoy any food rather than something I’m addicted to!

Oh and the other strategy...the only chocolate I buy for the family are bars I don’t like! So when I do give in and buy some for them I’m not tempted.

I wish you lots of luck, hope to see you around

Totally agree with buying stuff you don't like if it has to be in the house at all! And you're right of course that tastes do change -if I have something very sugary occasionally I think why did I eat that .. it wasn't very nice....! (Exception to this is fruit, but body having adapted to lchf I can have a few carbs now so don't begrudge myself a banana or peach now and then!)

Hello Amrena. I defy anyone to be a bigger chocahololic than I was. Just after Christmas, as I tucked into my second bag of orange chocolate covered honeycomb, the thought occurred "this ain't normal". So, from 28th December I gave up all 'rubbish sugar'. No chocolate, cake, biscuits, sweets, alcohol, desserts etc etc etc. I cook 90% from scratch, and anything purchased is scrutinized to make sure no 'rubbish sugar' is sneaking in.

These days I like to imagine some smug executive from the food industry worrying how he/she will afford to fuel the Leah jet for the weekend jaunt to the Med, purely on the basis I'm eating 'rubbish sugar' free!

Good luck with downgrading their hotel budget!
