Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum lala1233

Well done on making changes to your diet and lifestyle 👏. Anything that encourages moving is good in my opinion. However, I believe it’s quite difficult to accurately guage how many calories you’ve burnt, but you will soon see by the number on the scales. 😊

You will have been given links to our Pinned Posts in your Welcome message when you first joined, please read them carefully, especially the Welcome Newbies and the Security Post as I notice you haven’t locked your post

This is a very busy forum with lots going on but feel free to ask if you have any questions 😊

Best Wishes in your weight loss journey

Indigo 😊

Hi, lala1233

I have an Apple Watch.

I am 70, and I was disabled for half a decade - so I limit exercise to walking 30 or 40 Km a week, but my Apple Watch tells me I burn 500 to 750 calories a day.

If you "have a medical condition which doesn’t allow me to do a lot of exercise as I get so tired"... perhaps you should seek medical advice or let your body tell you how much exercise is enough?

I have the HRV4Training app for the Apple Watch/iPhone and the Strava HRV (Heart Rate Variability) app, which monitors training and tell you if you are over-training.

Hey lala! I have a Fitbit so sort of similar and I love it :)

I try to take my calorie burn with a pinch of salt to make sure I don’t over compensate by eating a lot more. Burning 640 extra calories every day sounds like it would be an awful lot to me!! I did a 45 minute Zumba class (am 13st 6 and 5ft 10) and burned approx 520 calories. That’s an extremely high energy activity for me. Usually it’s short runs or walking / swimming I do throughout the week - I mix it up and the calories totally vary from 50-180-540 depending on what I’ve done :)

If you can burn off 640 regularly and are listening to your body and not exhausting yourself then go for it but make sure that you pick something that is sustainable and doesn’t exhaust you. Personally if I did that Zumba class everyday I would tire myself out and bust my knees! So find what works for you but I think moving your body and doing activities you enjoy is more important than aiming for a set calorie burn (especially as this can often make us deflated if we don’t hit our targets). Activity is great for your body, but make sure it is fun, sustainable and energising and not punitive!

Enjoy :-)
