Hey all, I really need your help and support. Since Christmas I have lost three stone.

I have now started Xenicol tablets and in first week have lost 11lbs . I know that’s most prob a fluke and won’t happen again.

I really need the motivation and drive to do this now and to take control of my life...

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Gaz757 😊.

Well done on taking the first step in your weight loss journey 👏. I don’t know much about Xenecol so cannot comment, but as a peer to peer support group you won’t get better help anywhere 😊

We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary. Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Excellent 😊 The best advice I can give is have enough to eat. If you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the 1400/1900 calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, please check your own personal calorie target using the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think. We always advise starting towards the top of the range, being hungry is the biggest cause of weight loss failure.

Good luck and please keep in touch 😊👍

Hi, Gaz757 , Welcome.

Good luck with your weight-loss.

LIke she said, this is a peer to peer support group - so, if you are the one that knows about Xenicol tablets... perhaps you could tell the rest of us?

Orlistat works by blocking the enzyme that breaks down fats in your diet. This undigested fat then passes out of your body in your bowel movement. Orlistat does not block the absorption of calories from sugar and other non-fat foods, so you still need to restrict your total intake of calories.

It has nasty side effects on your bowel movements if you eat fat!

To Admin, I didn't mean this as an advert, but for information. You asked for info, people need to know how unpleasant it can be!

That looks fine to me. It's a description of the drug's action.

Thank you

Welcome Gaz757. Your weightloss is impressive. As others have said peer support is the basis of sustained healthy eating and a 'good life all over!'

Do check out the daily diary and also the summer challenge. You can challenge yourself to anything from getting into a new top or an excercise challenge

I would try to focus on eating proper food at this point, because that's what's going to keep you slim and healthy long-term. You're presumably on the right track already if you've lost 3st, which means that orlistat is not going to help you much. Dietary fat has absolutely nothing to do with bodyfat, and if you block its absorption then logically your body is going to be 100% reliant on carbohydrates for energy - which severely limits your chances of ever attaining a healthy bodyweight. Not only that, it compels you to eat bizarre meals to avoid the side effects associated with it - and that, in turn, is going to have powerful conditioning effect on your appetite, driving you away from foods which are healthy and wholesome. I just can't see any upsides here.

If you're eating good, nutritious food, and avoiding rubbish like white bread, sweets, biscuits, and breakfast cereals, you will lose weight. Join in with the daily diary and you'll most likely get some more hints.
