Hello, penguin99, you've come to the weight loss forum. We are a peer support group so not in a position to give any medical advice, and would be unlikely to have many members with diverticular disease. I suggest you would be best to contact your GP or specialist medical team :)

I see there is a bowel disease forum healthunlocked.com/bdogf , but it doesn't seem to be very active.

I don't know it the Crohns and Colitis forum could help healthunlocked.com/crohns-c...

I'm afraid I know nothing about diverticulitis, penguin99 but wonder if this would be helpful

I am no doctor but my mum had this and at one time needed a wee op but other than that she swore by taking porridge for breakfast helped. I don’t think I have this condition but sometimes suffer from constipation and other than drinking plenty of water I too find eating porridge helps keep me regular. If you’ve never tried it make sure you use milk to cook it.....so much nicer. Hope it helps

Hello penguin 99. I have diverticular problems, Dr prescribed membeverine (Colofac} But has now changed to Buscopan it seems to work quicker.

I find if I take 1 fybogel socket each morning and drink plenty of water daily I rarely get any symptoms..

This is a very pain full condition and would completely knock me for six and leave me a very weepy mess for several days after an attack. I’ve also realised some food are best avoided ..white bread, peppered foods, red meats are triggers for me... Good luck I hope this may help..

Hello penguin99,

I am currently trying to 'heal' my flare up of diverticulitis. I thoroughly understand where you are coming from. My method this time is to go on a clear liquid diet. (type in 'clear liquids for diverticulitis' on the internet, you will find a lot of help and advice as to how to make your own clear liquid etcetera, it's quite easy)

Miserable, miserable, miserable disease!! It certainly is. I am finding taking only liquids has eased the pain and seems to be overcoming the inflammation or whatever caused the flare up this time. I am also seeing my GP this morning for her opinion.

Having suffered this for years and years (I am 86) it has become a way of life and limits everything I do. I cannot commit myself to anything as I don't know how I will feel on the day, pain free or in agony!! Not any fun at all, but the pain free days are a bonus.

Very best of luck with yours. I would suggest that the liquid diet would help the most, as no solids are going through your gut to irritate it, giving it time to heal. (Buscopan eases pain also.)

Take care x

Hi penguin99, you have my sympathy, I truly understand the pain you get. I have suffered with this in the past and get dreadful cramps. However 3yrs ago I went on a gluten free diet. I stayed gluten free for 2.5yrs. This diet really helped. Now I have started eating hovis multiseed bread and tolerating other 'normal' foods. I also take ground flax seeds and have seen benefits. I wish you well.
