Night eating

I did so well in the day yesterday but ruined it by eating in the night as I couldn’t sleep. It’s a really bad habit I’m struggling to break. If I could stop it then I know I would lose weight ☹️

I do it too! I’m hungry in the evening so I try to have longer lasting carbs lunchtime or I eat early 4.30 and have small snack 7pm

I think I eat for the pleasure not because I’m really hungry. It’s like a comfort for me. When I’m half asleep it’s hard to stop myself. I suffer with depression and anxiety which I take medication for plus I have sleep apnea because of my weight. It’s so important I lose weight I just find it so hard. I’ve been like this for years xxx

Hello Tulip, when you say you did so well yesterday, what is the calorie range you got from the NHS BMI calculator and how many calories did you eat during the day yesterday?

And if you have your meals planned for today, how about posting them on the Daily Diary? That way, we'd be more able to help. Do quote your calorie range and the calories for each meal

I’m trying to stick to 1400 calories a day. My range was about 2000 calories I think. My BMI is 33 so I have a big problem. Yesterday I had toast with butter, beans and four new potatoes with a corn on the cob. I’m on holiday so I took the kids to the pub but only ate two chicken nuggets and soda water. I went to bed but got up when I couldn’t sleep and ate two slices of bread and about 7 rich tea biscuits. I ruined my 1400 calorie day x

I think you have your answer there. 1400 is inappropriate for you, and if you continue to stick with it, chances are you'll continue to wake in the night, hungry. It's hunger, not just a habit.

Aim for nearer the 2000 cals today and see how you go. You need it. Your body needs it and that's what it's telling you.

You might also want to look at what you're eating, as well as how much. There's a high proportion of carbohydrates in your meals yesterday. These may give a short term feeling of fullness but leave you wanting more, and that will play havoc with your eating plan, whatever your calorie range. It would help if you could get more protein and healthy fats into your meals.

For more help, plan out your meals for tomorrow and log them on Wednesday's Daily Diary when it is posted this evening.

Have you tried eating more protein I find it really filying. Do you like fruit ? I'm a little picker with bigger knickers but I find raspberries, cherries etc are great 😊
